BIRDS & WILDLIFE

Northern Senegal is dominated by acacias, bush and low grass. The Baobab and Kapok trees are huge trees that stand out in the landscape. There are many local fruits and the tamarind for example is used in sauces and syrups.

Many people visit the region to spot birds and common species in the Senegambia area include the marabou, flamingo, spoonbill, cormorant, crane and the ground hornbill. Mammals come in the form of giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, gazelle,Derby eland, hyenas, warthogs, leopards and desert foxes.

The major national park for viewing animals is Niokolokoba, several hours east of Abene and we are able to arrange trips there.
